UNHCR Card Holder Burmese Refugees Arrested In Malaysia

11 of UNHCR card holder Burmese refugees were arrested on 25 Nov 2008. They were arrested by enforcement forces, at 1:30am from Ampang Tasik Permai, Ampang.


All of them were identified as Rohingya refugees from Burma. The source said, “refugees from Ampang were arrested by immigration and CID forces, and presently detained in Putrajaya immigration lock up.”


“We had reported at the same time to concern quarter UNHCR and by the rest of family members. But they were remaining still in detention camp,” the source added.


Rohingya community from Johor, Mr. Ali added that about 20 of recognized Rohingya refugees were arrested by immigration forces in last 2 weeks ago while they were working in car wash center, Kota Tinggi. However, he had been approached to UNHCR office but he was not allowed to talked about them by UNHCR’s RSD officer Mr. Mikeal Abdullah, even to submit their names and numbers.
