A Refugee Faced Abuses In UNHCR-Malaysia

A refugee was faced physical abuses in UNHCR, Jalan Bukit Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 13th April 2009.

The victim was identified as Mohd.Salim, UNHCR File No. 512-03C-01184, a Rohingya refugee from Burma and a father of six children. He was faced physical abuses by UNHCR’s securities, on his approach of medical treatment.

According to the victim, around 11:30am (local time), while he is talking to one of UNHCR’s security to allow to meet an officer for his feeling cool and suffering urinary tract for two weeks, other security officer punched twice to his face and torn his wearing shirt by pulling out, beside another officer punched to his upper stomach.

When The Sail asked to an activist by phone, “we community received various cases of physical abuses faced by refugees. This is one of the first case in this year. Informal in tacking action against international agency like UNHCR or resistance, if the agency itself ignored to take action against abuses in its field. But, it does not mean to ignore such abuses.”

“The victim was met medical treatment under police care. But, as a refugee patient, he would need to complete medication and meet fair approach from its custody,” he added.
