Refugee Families in Penang Arrested in A Raid

About 14 refugee family members were arrested by Rela raid in Penang on 5th Jan 2011.

Despite the raid had swept about 50 people from one of the apartments, we have collected only 5 families consisting 14 people are concerned as Rohingya refugee family members involving 5 children. Except 2 individual Rohingya women, all of them have UNHCR card.

They were arrested at about 11:30pm of the day from Taman Pertama of Bukit Mertajam, Penang. Among 5 families, only 2 Rohingya husbands were captured and the rest 2 Rohingya husbands were escaped but all of their wives are Indonesians. Now, they are detained in Juru detention camp.

Before they were deported or separated for deportation process, they need interferences by both UNHCR and Indonesian Embassy in KL.
