KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) – OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu expressed his warmest congratulations and best wishes to all Muslims on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr but reminded them to make every effort to help the Rohingya minority in Myanmar overcome their plight.

In a statement Tuesday, he said that the Muslim Rohingya minority in Myanmar, were still suffering from flagrant violations which threatened their very existence in that country.

The secretary-general of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also urged the Ummah to continue to support the Palestinian people to ensure the establishment of the independent Palestinian State with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital.

He also noted that although the month of Ramadan is a month of peace, serenity and security, where Muslims are particularly fervent in fulfilling their prayers, worshipping and soul purification, certain Islamic nations were deprived of these sense of peace and security.

"While some of us find in Ramadan a time to feel secure and serene, it is distressing for me to say that corners of the Islamic world were deprived of this serenity and peace, while some other parts are facing misery and harsh conditions, especially in Syria where basic necessities are denied, lack of security, increasing disturbances, human rights violations, the killing and displacement have become an everyday fact of life," he said.
