Rohingya Refugees: Their Solution A Must. (RYDF)

(Press Release)
Rohingya Refugees: Their Solution A Must
Date: 10th August 2009

Kuala Lumpur: We the Rohingya Youth Development Forum (RYDF), Arakan Burma are deeply concern over the protection of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh as thousands of them are youth and children below eighteen years.

We are also filled with fear and frustration whether the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), which is persistently violating human rights and freedom across the nation and refusing to transfer power to the elected people’s representatives, will rehabilitate all the refugees in their original hearths and homes, while the exodus is still continuing unabated. If they were forcibly repatriated to Burma, their future may lead to a dangerous proportion as there is no rule of law in Burma.

The military also continuously putting pressure over the Rohingyas in arakan state by various means including forced labor, forced relocation, forced eviction, extortion, rape, extra judicial killing, model village settlement, restriction on their movement, development of family, restriction on higher education, economic development, and culture and religious performance, restriction on freedom of worship, demolition of historical statues, restriction on culture and traditional exercise and etc.

Their repatriation is a question of life and death for the entire Rohingya community. It may be recalled that the Rohingyas have long been subjected to genocide, persecution, suppression, forced labour, rape and extermination at the hands of the Burmese authorities and repressive functionalities under the false and fabricated allegation that they are illegal immigrants or Bangladeshis, in utter disregard of their history, glorious past and Sultanate in Arakan. Prior to present operation about 1.5 million of their people had already been expelled who have been languishing in many countries of the world like Bangladesh, Thailand, Malaysia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and etc are the worst victims of aforesaid atrocities and thus their voluntary or forceful return to Burma will not guarantee of their lives and liberty unless having structural democratic changes in Burma.

We have come to notify that present ruling Bangladeshi government is stepping forward crime against humanity through forceful repatriation of Rrohingya refugees in to a lawless country on which government of united stated of America (USA) and European Union (EU) have already increased economic sanction for its brutalities.

By this statement, we RYDF urge the government of Bangladesh to review repatriation policy and to boycott relationship with Burma in order to avoid all kinds of allegation including crime against humanity. If the government continues to implement push back policy, it may face serious pressure from the world bodies.

And hence, we appeal to the international community, government of USA, Great Britain, Australia, Canada and EU to install pressure over Bangladeshi government to stop its inhumanity against Rohingya refugees and to advocate the causes of Rohingyas to the world, allowing intentional agencies, media and advocates without any hesitation.
Thank You
